Dating firearms by seral number

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question.I recently will turn 40 and for a birthday present my dad surprised me with a nice rifle.

It has a 4x leupold gold ring scope with it and the woodwork is a little different than on other BDLs I have seen.

Remington owners: COPY this table to your Hard Drive......! using the same letter to mean the date in various years, is kind of stupid on Remington's part, what's wrong with just stamping it with 2 numbers for the date, like "77" or "94" also what does the "90" mean at the end ?

This date code was usually stamped on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver. Frankm there is a two letter code for month and year on 22's from 60-68 I do not know if it was on any other years, scroll down at the link below and you will find the list.

The first letter of the date code is as follows: A = Jan. There is a much more complete information on dating a Marlin here at in the reference section. t=495G Wi; You apparently have a new Marlin Model 1895 that was manufactured in 1973.

Is there any way to determine exactly what store based on the serial number?
